In episode 10 of Small Business Stories, hosted by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Louisiana Catalyst, Matt Bridges, owner of 3B Outdoor, shared how his business has grown through local support and community engagement. With locations in both Monroe and West Monroe, 3B Outdoor has become a go-to resource for residential and commercial outdoor equipment sales, service, and rentals.
From Construction to Community
Before buying the existing business in 2015, Bridges worked in heavy highway construction across several states. His experience managing large-scale operations helped him bring structure and strategic thinking to a small business setting. “The biggest change,” Bridges said, “was learning how to work with customers daily instead of shareholders.”
What Makes 3B Outdoor Different?
Bridges highlighted one key advantage: local service. “Big box stores can sell the product, but they can’t service it,” he said. At 3B, if something breaks, they fix it. They also offer pickup and delivery services, a huge value for customers who don’t own trailers or trucks. “It’s that customer-first experience that sets us apart,” he added.
Serving Monroe and West Monroe
3B Outdoor operates two locations: Monroe at 2528 Foran Street and West Monroe at 809 Well Road. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The business serves residential customers, municipalities, and commercial contractors with top brands like Echo, Toro, Hustler, Exmark, and Skag.
Post-COVID Resilience
While deemed essential during COVID-19, 3B Outdoor didn’t escape the pandemic’s ripple effects. Inventory challenges and rising prices hit hard in late 2022. “We saw a 35% cost increase,” said Bridges, “but wages didn’t rise to match.” Supply chains are recovering, but workforce shortages continue to affect the manufacturing side.
Growing with the Community
Bridges credits much of his success to his faith, family, and the community that supports him. He’s advertised on 88.7 The Cross since the beginning, and believes strongly in giving back. “We support local teams, events, and causes — and we appreciate when the community supports us in return.”
Why the Chamber Matters
As an active Monroe Chamber member, Bridges says the relationships have been a game changer. “It’s given me a voice,” he explained. “The chamber connects me with decision-makers, helps me grow my business, and helps me give back more effectively.”
Looking Ahead
Bridges is focused on growth. “I don’t like being idle,” he said. “We’re exploring new markets, new services, and ways to keep Monroe growing.” With grass growing fast and demand for outdoor services always high, 3B Outdoor is poised for continued success.
Supporting Small Business Monroe
Matt Bridges left listeners with one message: “Support your local small businesses.” He reminds the community that local shops are the ones donating to school fundraisers, sponsoring sports teams, and reinvesting in the area — and they need community support to thrive.
